Porsche Cayenne Turbo 2008

Aggressive Styling Supported by 500 Horsepower

With a striking new face that features a dramatic new headlight design and with a wide and muscular body accented by broad wheel arches, the 2008 Porsche Cayenne's newly sculpted shape
provides vivid visual testimony to the vehicle's enhanced technical features.

The 2008 model year marks the launch of the second generation of the Porsche SUV, and the new Cayennes back up their aggressive new design with larger and more powerful - but also more fuel-efficient engines.

As you would expect from Porsche, the new Cayenne Turbo not only looks more powerful, it is, with the engine offering 500 horsepower and new dynamic technologies that allow the Porsche of SUVs to perform more like a more nimble vehicle, yet still be capable of towing a trailer or challenging unpaved terrain and inclement weather.

The 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo features a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 that pumps out an astounding 500 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Flowing through a six-speed Tiptronic S transmission, that power feeds all four wheels and propels the five-passenger sports machine from a standing start to 60 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed on the test track has been recorded at 171 mph. And yet, the Cayenne Turbo qualifies as an LEVII (low-emission vehicle) and in preliminary fuel economy testing the Cayenne Turbo showed the benefits of the direct fuel injection technology with an improvement up to 11 percent in highway driving.

Direct fuel injection is only one of the new technologies featured on the 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. For example, for the first time the Cayenne V8 engines also are equipped with Porsche VarioCam Plus variable valve control.

The second generation SUVs can be equipped with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) that includes active anti-roll bars that almost completely offset body roll in turns, improving handling, comfort and safety on road while also providing enhanced traction off pavement.

New as well are Dynamic Curve Lights (standard on the Cayenne Turbo and optional on the other models) to enhance the driver's view at night on a curving roads.

Standard equipment on all versions of the 2008 Cayenne includes Porsche Stability Management (PSM), now with new functions such as pre-loading of the braking system when needed, new Trailer Stability Control and off-road ABS.

For the first time, the Cayennes come with a rollover sensor able in an emergency to trigger both the belt latch tensioners and curtain airbags, thus helping to reduce the risk of injury for all occupants in a rollover. In conjunction with the Cayenne's six standard airbags, this system gives Porsche's sport utility a benchmark occupant safety and protection system.

Other new features include a standard and push-button Sports mode for all Cayenne engines, a standard power rear lift gate, the availability of 21-inch wheels, a rail-mounted cargo management system and XM satellite radio.

Limited Edition Brabus SL55 K8

Pity the German companies who make their living 'tuning' mainstream motors. All the big German manufacturers (save Porsche) now have their own in-house performance divisions. Audi has its S, BMW has its M, Volkswagen has its R, and Mercedes has its AMG. Your local dealer will sell you an extra hot version of any basic model, complete with warranty and a choice of body mods. It's hard to see what an independent tuner can bring to the party.
Case in point: the Mercedes Benz AMG SL55. Why would anyone would want more muscle in a car that pumps out a colossal 500bhp @ 6100rpms? The SL55's V8 Kompressor also generates an epic 516lb.ft. of torque at 2650 - 4500rpms. In other words, Mercedes' uber-SL is fully capable of hurling its occupants from any speed, to any speed, without hesitation, deviation or repetition. In fact, the svelte-looking SL55 is one of those rare machines that can turn forward thrust into physical pain.
Like many enthusiasts, Professor Ulrich Gauffres is a glutton for G-related punishment who likes something a little… different. Gauffres, Brabus' resident Dr. Evil, was charged with 'improving' an already magnificent, fully developed Mercedes Benz. Under his tutelage, Essen's finest have achieved the impossible: transforming a rapid yet civilised passenger car into something darker, wilder and faster.
The darker bit comes as standard. Long before Daimler Chrysler's marketing department agreed to transport the MIB in a suitably dark E-Class sedan, Brabus finished all its mad Mercs in black hole black.
To do the wild thing, the Brabus Boyz lower the 'donor' SL55 by 15mm and graft new, more aggressive bodywork to the front, rear and sides. Twenty-inch custom wheels (up from the standard 18') heighten the sense of intimidation. In case you miss the visual menace (subtle as it is), Brabus transplants the standard exhaust with a deeper breathing, bassier sounding stainless steel unit.
To make the searingly quick SL55 faster, Professor Gauffres' minions implant an extra intercooler and pump into the engine bay. 'More cold air into the superchargers means more pressure,' Professor Gauffres explains with worrying enthusiasm. 'More pressure means more power.' A new under drive pulley also helps to increase the critical supercharger boost.
Two weeks and £75K+ later, the upgraded interior is re-attached to the SL's exoskeleton and the Brabus badges affixed. The result is predictably bizarre: an SL sex change, from Claudia Schiffer to The Incredible Hulk.
The Brabus K8 has the same footprint as the SL55, and 'only' 50 more horses, but it looks and feels like an entirely different animal. The tarmac-sniffing front spoiler, drag strip tyres and the engine's deep space rumble all tell you that the K8 is an SL55 with a serious attitude problem.
At first, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Brabus has fashioned a sheep in wolves' clothing. Around town, it's as docile as the donor car. Then, well, if you're a fan of the fine art of flooring the gas pedal and holding on for dear life, the K8 is your ultimate fairground attraction.
The 0 to 60 sprint is virtually identical to the SL55's (4.4 vs. 4.5 secs.). But the in-gear times are noticeably improved. Overtaking at any speed is so damn quick it inspires the kind of maniacal laughter beloved of comic book villains. Mind you, the SL55 already provides outrageous urge. The K8 simply offers more.
The top end is the other important - I mean 'interesting' - difference. A German 'gentleman's agreement' restricts all Mercedes products to 155mph. The de-limitered K8 takes the SL to infinity and beyond! When Continental finishes testing the car's bespoke high-speed tires, the K8 should be good for 206mph. Seriously. Even more impressive: someone in Brabus is bound to try it on the autobahn.
Which is, let's face it, this car's natural habitat. The Brabus K8's extra shove only earns its keep in a straight-line fight from 50mph to whatever. Around corners, there's nothing in it. No surprise there. At over two tons, all SL's (Sports Light?) have an inherent tendency to turn a really fast corner into a nose-first exploration of electronic drivers' aids. Still, I believe Brabus' assurance that practice dramatically increases cornering confidence. Just.
OK, now we know Brabus can make the Mercedes AMG SL55 look meaner and go faster. Time to return to the fundamental question. Why? Patriotic German autobahn freaks pursuing the Holy Grail of Total Road Superiority have their answer. For anyone else, the K8 is simply an SL55 with a Max Power cosmetic makeover and NASCAR soundtrack. Any performance advantage over the SL55 is likely to remain unexplored. And yet, if you have money to burn, why not? Owning a K8 is a bit like picking up a beautiful stranger in a singles bar. Even if you don't want to, it's nice to know you can.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

The New Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

The new Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 features considerable innovations in terms of body design and mechanics. And also with a new name: Murcielago LP640, which refers to its engine position - longitudinale posteriore - and to its power 640 bhp. Designers and engineers have not only focused on reworking the engine, suspensions, gearbox, exhaust system, brakes and electronics, but also the interior and exterior design; improvements that make the Murcielago LP 640 the most extreme and fastest sports car in its class, placing it at the very top.

The first vehicles will be available in spring 2006. Since the original Murcielago's debut at the 2001 International Car Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, around 2,000 vehicles have left the car plant in Sant' Agata Bolognese.

Unmistakable Lamborghini Design

In their reinterpretation of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, the designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre have remained true to the traditional Lamborghini principles of purism, sport and function. The Murcielago LP640 now appears even more aggressive, with the new front and rear bumpers contributing significantly to its appearance. The exhaust system terminal has been incorporated in the diffuser on the rear bumper. Other innovations include the rear lights, which enhance the distinguishing features of the Murcielago LP640, making it unmistakable even at night. The design of the sides is also worth mentioning: while the area behind the air intake on the right side is practically closed, the left side features a vast aperture for cooling the oil radiator. Together with the aerodynamically defined front and rear, this proves yet again that the shape of a Lamborghini is dictated by function.

More Powerful Engine

The engine of the new Murcielago LP640 has undergone outstanding and radical modification. The increased bore and longer stroke have boosted the displacement of the classic 60° V-engine from 6.2 liters to 6.5 liters. Thus the already extraordinary 580 bhp engine power has now been elevated to an impressive peak of 640 bhp at 8,000 rpm. The 12-cylinder engine reaches a maximum torque of 487 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm.

The new Murcielago LP640 features a modified sixratio gearbox as well as a tougher rear differential and new axle shafts. On request, the e-gear automatic gearbox is also available equipped with the new dedicated "Thrust" (acceleration program) mode.

Frame and Chassis: Perfect Harmony

The body of the Murcielago LP640 with its characteristic scissor doors is created from the prized union of sheet steel and honeycombed carbon fiber, glued and riveted together.

Driving, handling and stability at high speed are enhanced by new springs and stabilizers, as well as by a redesigned electronically controlled damper. The "antidive" and "anti-squat" features on the axles, which efficiently prevent so-called "brake diving" and "squatting", have not been changed. The two springs on every rear wheel, the single spring on every front wheel and the damper are placed coaxially.

Optional CeramicCarbon Brakes

The dual hydraulic circuit brake system equipped with a vacuum brake booster ensures considerable deceleration values. The self-ventilating front and rear brake disks measure 380 mm x 34 mm and 355 mm x 32 mm respectively. The control circuit of the four-channel anti-blocking system (ABS) with electronic brake control (DRP) and traction control (TCS) features a new characteristic curve. The system consists in an electro-hydraulic control unit and four speed sensors.

When particularly high braking performance is required, it is possible to equip the vehicle with 380 mm x 36 mm ceramic carbon brakes featuring six-piston brake calipers.

Even More Exclusive Interior

The seats in the cockpit have undergone the most radical changes; more spacious and equipped with redesigned head restraints, the seats now ensure better comfort.

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Gallardo Superleggera: Lighter and More Powerful

With the Gallardo Superleggera, Lamborghini presents an uncompromisingly high-performance sports car. Thanks to 10 additional horsepower and a 154 lbs weight reduction, the new range-leading Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera offers even more excitement and driving pleasure.

The Superleggera also has the fastest acceleration in its class. It needs only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph; 0.2 seconds less than the basic model, and boasting speed and grit under other driving conditions.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera is an extremely high-performance car: it includes a standard robotized mechanical 'e-gear' gearbox that guarantees shifting without removing hands from the steering wheel. The car can be ordered through the dealer network starting March 2007. Production volumes will be restricted to lower numbers than the standard Gallardo.

More Horsepower

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera's engine is the latest version of Lamborghini's well-known 5.0-liter V10. The increase in power (to 530 bhp) was made possible by the engine's improved volumetric efficiency through reduced intake load losses and by exhaust backpressures, together with optimized electronic control.

Advanced Technology Helps Reduce Weight

Lamborghini engineers decreased the Lamborghini Gallardo's already low weight when empty by another 154 lbs using advanced materials and technologies. The engine hood is made of visible carbon fiber and transparent polycarbonate, a type of material that guarantees lightness and also shows off the magnificent V10. The rear diffuser and underbody covering, the rearview mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel's covering are also made of carbon fiber. Further reductions in weight were achieved by replacing certain glass surfaces with transparent polycarbonate. For the interior, monocoque carbon fiber sports seats covered in Alcantara were chosen to ensure restraint of the driver and passenger during the intense lateral accelerations that the Gallardo Superleggera is capable of achieving around curves.

Exclusive Options

A comprehensive specification and extensive range of options will be available, with some exclusive to the Superleggera. The Superleggera comes with robotized mechanical e-gear as standard; a sports package including shock absorbers; and special suede-covered steering wheel. The car is available in four colors: Midas Yellow, Borealis Orange, Telesto Gray and Noctis Black. Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires (standard) on new Scorpius forged rims accentuate the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. A few of the options that can be requested include the multimedia system with navigator and CD-changer; a rear video camera to make parking easier (with optional rear wing only); a Carbon accessories kit for the interior; a fixed rear spoiler; a four-point seatbelt (not for USA); tubular rear frame or fitting points for later inclusion (not for USA, Japan or Middle East); and carbon-ceramic brakes.
